The base station is part of the system
A DECT handset normally reaches the IP calling system through a base station. Count handsets, registered accounts and concurrent conversations separately. A base that supports many paired handsets may have a smaller simultaneous-call capacity.
Survey the actual working area
Walk the routes staff use: stock rooms, lifts, stairwells, loading areas and fire doors. Test a live call while moving and while the site is busy. A range figure measured in open space is not a reliable prediction for your building.
Multi-cell designs add synchronization and handover requirements. Confirm the manufacturer's supported topology before assuming several independent bases will behave as one roaming system.
Power and operational ownership
Base stations need network connectivity and power even when the handsets have charged batteries. Plan spare batteries or charging routines, PoE capacity and power protection for the network path. Identify who replaces a lost handset and revokes its access.
Choose against alternatives
Compare DECT with Wi-Fi phones using the building's actual coverage and management capabilities. Validate headset fit, cleaning requirements and how staff make urgent calls. Obtain exact-model radio-region and platform compatibility information before ordering; this guide intentionally provides no universal range or capacity claim.
