The 9800 research starting point
Cisco's 9800 datasheet identifies PhoneOS and lists multiple calling-platform paths, including Asterisk interoperability. This is manufacturer evidence, not a claim that VoIP.info tested every feature or that all platform experiences are identical.
Choose the device and platform together
The 9841 provides a compact physical-key reference. Larger models add different displays and controls. Verify which features are available with your selected platform and software release; a Webex-specific workflow should not become a generic SIP promise.
Understand procurement variants
Cisco lists multiple product part numbers and deployment variants. Match the exact ordered SKU to your organization's requirements. A compatible family name on a reseller listing is insufficient to establish radio capabilities, accessories or provisioning ownership.
Pilot a representative desk
Test account activation, two-way audio, incoming calls, hold, attended and blind transfer, headset operation and restart recovery. If users need line monitoring or shared desks, add those to the acceptance sheet rather than assuming that successful registration proves the feature.
Ask who supplies firmware updates and resolves interoperability faults. Keep the manufacturer datasheet and the provider's supported-device statement with the deployment record. No hardware score, unverified support end date or volatile price is assigned here.
