Grandstream GXP firmware: follow a UCM Zero Config update

Intermediate

Why this is useful

See how a provisioning policy points a GXP2170 at a firmware source, and why global policy, global templates and model templates have different reach. The demonstration also catches a stale browser version label and checks the installed version in system information. It is useful preparation for a staged update, provided you replace the historical firmware choices with your approved maintenance plan.

Applicability

Legacy

Legacy UCM/GXP2170 interface and firmware 1.0.8.x. Use the current release notes for the exact hardware, including downgrade restrictions.

Keep in mind

  • Change default administrator credentials even on a test phone connected to a network.
  • A global policy change may affect an entire fleet. Test a limited template before broad deployment.
  • Do not copy the old firmware path or perform an arbitrary downgrade; keep power stable and plan recovery.

Before you watch

Administrator approval for the affected devices, an approved firmware path and a maintenance window.

Put it into practice

Document a single-phone pilot: current version, approved target, source, backup and acceptance calls. After an authorized update, check the phone’s system information and registration rather than relying on a cached browser heading.
