Freeze one tenant, user, client path and symptom
Record tenant or PBX, site, user, license, extension, direct number, queue roles, selected calling device, desktop, Web, mobile, VDI or desk-phone path, operating system or browser, package owner, app-reported build, network, local and UTC time, direction, destination and first visible symptom. Redact credentials, precise location and unrelated participant data.
Separate authentication failure, missing capability, retired build, wrong extension or device, rejected destination, route to voicemail, no alert, silent ringtone, answer failure, answered call without audio, poor media and missing support evidence. Do not merge results from different client or endpoint paths.
Prove assignment, capability and version before reinstalling
Confirm the exact tenant, site, user, calling license, extension, number, external-calling permission, queue membership and feature visibility. Compare the app-reported desktop build with the current 8x8 lifecycle record, but preserve the original failure before updating, clearing state, signing out or reinstalling.
A successful login proves neither a calling entitlement nor a current supported build. A visible feature can be capability-dependent, while a missing feature can result from license or profile policy. Keep identity, entitlement, policy, package, build and runtime state separately observable.
Trace route, presence, notification and final endpoint
For one controlled non-emergency inbound call, inspect extension and queue routing, forwarding, voicemail, Do Not Disturb, queue login, app notification choices, operating-system notification and sound permission, ringtone output and alternate devices. Record the provider attempt, 8x8 target, route decision, visual alert, audible output, answer action and final answering endpoint.
Do Not Disturb can send calls to voicemail and disable desktop notifications. A badge, history row, voicemail or successful answer on another device does not prove the affected client received an alert or produced an audible ringtone.
Compare the exact client and one bounded network path
Record native desktop, browser Web, mobile, VDI or desk-phone path and the actual running build. Run the 8x8 Network Utility only where authorized and preserve its timestamp, host and path. Its DNS, port, NAT, ALG, media, fragmentation, traceroute, bandwidth and bufferbloat results are a snapshot rather than the affected call.
Compare one controlled call on one alternate network only after preserving the original result. Success there narrows the boundary but does not identify the original Wi-Fi, VPN, firewall, proxy, router, ISP or inspection policy as the cause.
Separate device selection, quality indicators and perceived media
Record operating-system input and output, 8x8 microphone and speaker choice, permission, headset or Bluetooth path, noise suppression and automatic gain control where applicable. Keep local device response, in-call connection indicator, Network Utility media test, live packets, decoding and what each party heard separate.
A utility threshold, packet-loss or jitter warning, green indicator or local audio control is useful evidence but does not prove the PSTN route, remote endpoint, two-way media, perceived quality or root cause for the affected call.
Correct one owner and preserve support and emergency evidence
Assign the first divergence to one owner: tenant, site, identity, license, extension, number, calling permission, queue, route, presence, client path, build, notification, network, local device, signaling, media, emergency location or support. Change one controlled variable and repeat the same non-emergency number, endpoint, network and direction plus one unaffected control.
Collect only authorized, minimized diagnostic artifacts and use the approved support route rather than a feedback form. Keep submission, case, finding and verified restoration separate. Emergency address, Nomadic 911 eligibility, Location Manager, detected network, 933 result and live emergency outcome also remain distinct. No tenant, client, call, utility result, emergency outcome, log or support response was inspected or tested.
